After several hours of waiting and the work undertaken – one could only shrug one’s shoulders in the face of such serious problems.
“For reasons beyond the organization's control and in order to ensure safety, the nationwide power outage in Spain has forced the cancellation of both the day and evening sessions of the Mutua Madrid Open,” reads the tournament organizers in a statement posted on social media.
Iga Świątek was supposed to play her match on Monday. The world number two should start her match at 1:00 PM with Russian Diana Sznajder. Polish fans can therefore expect the match to take place, but on Tuesday. Of course, if the situation related to the failure is brought under control. In Spain, there was a gigantic blackout.
